At 1.5 weeks into the project we have had an incredibly busy and fun/work filled time on the Island, research meetings, evenings with Jersey Heritage, a trip to Battery Moltke, and many great meals cooked by our current chef Cat. The team have bonded and we have made a lot of progress, both on site and in the stores.
We have been visited by a team of French archaeologists and geomorphologists from the University of Rennes 1; Brittany, who have been studying the raised beaches around the island and performed some laser scanning.
Looking at sections
On site we have re-opened trench A3, where we found a large concentration of artefacts last year, and four trenches in the newly opened excavation area towards the tents, which house the fabulous paintings by the Hautlieu students, themed around the Ice Age.

The north coast
The students explored the Island on their day off some visiting Durrell and others walking the North Coast from Greve de Lecq to the Pinacle via Plemont – our day ending in a barbecue with lots of local fresh fish.
This weekend we welcome new students from the University of Manchester and will begin to organise our excavations of Mesolithic sites on the north coast taking place over the next two weeks.
