Jersey Stores: the final day

Since we last updated you we have had a busy couple of weeks. Today we finally bagged the last artefact for the summer meaning we have re-bagged and organised over 10000 artefacts since the start of this summer season. In total we have over 20000 done of the massive 94000 collection from La Cotte de St Brelade. It has been a big undertaking and thanks must go to all our students and Jersey Heritage volunteers who have helped immensely along the way.

The work we have undertaken over the past three weeks will now allow the continuation and re-analysis of La Cotte to really begin to put this megasite into its European context. From a personal point of view we are beginning to pick apart patterns within the lithic collection that will give future research insights into Neanderthal behaviour through a period of changing climatic conditions.

It has been an incredibly successful summer from the stores.

Thanks for reading,

Sam Griffiths and Andy Needham
